3D content platform Sketchfab (very useful to deal with models for 3D configurators) offers a new tool for developers who want to share their favorite 3D, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) content with a broad audience.
The company`s new download API allows any 3D application to integrate Sketchfab`s object library with a user-friendly search bar. Think of the Giphy button in Twitter, but for 3D graphics.
Around 150.000 3D models can be integrated into the content. You can search by a variety of criteria including titles, tags, categories and polygon count.
The API starts with around 10 live integrations and 20 in progress, the company said. Services planning to integrate Sketchfab`s new tool include Amazon Sumerian, Substance, Modo and High Fidelity, Sansar, The Wave VR, MasterpieceVR and Meta.
Once the tool is implemented, any developer using these applications can easily integrate Sketchfab content without leaving the application. For the user, this means that a wider range of high-quality 3D elements from the background landscape to figures and characters in the foreground appear in the content they consume.
And keep an eye on Sketchfab, because you`ll soon have first-hand access to that content. With the Looking Glass AR platform, for example, you can display a Sketchfab 3D model as a hologram, which is a great way to make an impression on people.
