How to display your 360 degree images in VR

There is a myth that Virtual Reality (VR) is inherently impersonal and isolating. As with most types of technology, this depends heavily on how you use it.

There is a myth that VR is inherently impersonal and isolating. As with most types of technology, this depends heavily on how they are used.

One of the most compelling aspects of VR is its ability to capture meaningful moments in your life – weddings, children’s first steps or holidays – and relive them later.

It’s a powerful idea: you can immerse yourself or a loved one in every moment you capture with a 360-degree camera – now or years from now. Experience your wedding again.

Experience your baby’s first steps. Relive your last holiday that changed your life. Sure, it may not be the same as being there, but it’s already a great thing.

Of course, you don’t need a VR headset to view or share 360 degree pictures or videos. This is what they look like on your computer or mobile device:

Pretty cool, right? But when you put on a VR headset, you’re transported into the picture. It’s a little hard to describe if you’ve never tried it. Instead, here we explain how you can easily view your own 360 degree images in VR.

It looks like a lot of steps, but it is actually quite fast. After you’ve seen how it works, you can switch to VR mode to view any image in less than 5 seconds.

Here’s what you need before you start:

  • Your smartphone (iOS, Android etc.)
  • A viewer compatible with Google Cardboard.

What you need to do now:

Download your images from your 360 degree camera to your computer or smartphone.

Your 360-degree camera has options that allow you to use USB or Wi-Fi to connect to your devices and make it easier to transfer images.

Sign up for a Momento360 account if you have not already done so.

Momento360 is a free, easy and private way to upload, view and share your 360 degree images and videos in one place. Don’t forget to check your email address.

Upload 360 degree images from your computer or smartphone to Momento360.

Log in, click on the camera icon in the upper right corner. You will then be automatically prompted to select the pictures you want to upload.

In the “My Media” section, tap the first picture you want to view.

The picture will be displayed on a separate page.

Switch to full screen mode by clicking the “Fullscreen” button.

This is the small “Box” button, everything but the picture disappears.

Turn your phone to landscape mode. A Google Cardboard icon will appear on the right side.

Make sure that you have not activated the orientation lock. It is displayed under the “Close” button.

Tap on the Cardboard icon and place your smartphone in your VR viewer.

You will see the screen change to VR mode. It is now ready for use. Put it into your viewer and take a look around.

Press the Cardboard Viewer button to move to the next screen.

Most Cardboard Viewers have an action button. Click on it and the next image is loaded. If you have a viewer that doesn’t, just touch anywhere on your phone screen and it will take you to the next photo in your feed.

After you’re done, pull your phone out of the viewer and exit by rotating it back to portrait mode.

We have had very good experiences with Momento360 so far and have therefore decided to present the software and its most important functions to the German public in a small series. More articles about Momento360 will follow shortly.

Many thanks for your visit.
