As you`re probably heard, Sketchfab has developed native apps for using virtual reality (VR) content on the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Samsung Gear VR. The headsets are very useful to view 3D configurators.

These demo apps show some great Sketchfab scenes, but you can also see all 750.000 models of Sketchfab on these devices in VR.

Mobile VR.

Your smartphone can view any Sketchfab model in VR with a stereoscopic viewer and a Google Cardboard. Just go to the model page and tap View in VR to open the model in VR.

WebVR Sketchfab.

Gear VR.

The use of the Samsung Gear is very similar. Place your phone in the headset, open the Samsung Internet browser and go to internet://webvr-enable. WebVR should now be enabled on your device/browser.

Then go to VR mode on any model page, just like on the Google Cardboard.

Navigation.

By default the model is in orbit mode. Head tracking works with most devices and lets you rotate around a model, like the car here:

When the first camera view is within a scene, you can look around like in van Gogh`s room.

First-person mode.

You can switch to first-person mode from the viewer settings menu. Head Tracking works with most devices and you can look around from a fixed position. You can also move forward by clicking the Cardboard button.

Desktop WebVR.

You can also view Sketchfab models with head-mounted displays such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It takes a few extra steps, but this guide should help you get through the process without any major problems.

Desktop WebVR required an experimental version of Google Chrome with WebVR support. Firefox Nightly builds should also work soon, but have not yet been updated to the latest WebVR support. Under WebVR Ready you can check the status and progress of your browser regarding VR.
