Whether you are a company that manages large amounts of data or a single person developing projects in Unity, PiXYZ’s latest product that allows you to import CAD files directly into Unity will certainly be of interest to you.
Founded by CAD professionals with more than 10 years of experience optimizing 3D configurators for complex and numerous industrial applications, PiXYZ develops software that helps companies and 3D users reuse their CAD data for any visualization scenario. PiXYZ Studio, the company’s flagship software, enables users to import, assemble, tessellate, interact, optimize and export CAD files by providing an easy-to-use and intuitive user interface.
“3D visualization of aircraft interiors is a real challenge as CAD data continues to evolve,” says Dassault Aviation, a French military and business aircraft manufacturer, “PiXYZ helps us meet this challenge with its optimized tessellation and optimization tools for CGI and real-time applications. It is fast, easy, efficient and above all flexible and can be adapted to our process”.
PiXYZ and Unity have launched the PiXYZ plug-in with the goal of providing both large corporations and individuals with a solution for easily importing and optimizing CAD data to create real-time experiences in Unity. In addition, Unity offers an enterprise-wide offering called the Unity Industry Bundle, a customizable combination of PiXYZ products, support and training developed based on Unity.
“Unity has not been a secret weapon to our industrial customers for years because they have recognized the power of our real-time development platform and its unmatched flexibility and extensibility,” said Tim McDonough, GM of Industrial, Unity Technologies. “An important workflow for these customers is importing and preparing large CAD assemblies, a time-consuming process that affects productivity. We believe PiXYZ’s experts have simplified this process and made it easier for customers to improve the quality of their real-time 3D results.
The PiXYZ plug-in adds a menu item to the Unity Editor that allows you to import CAD models directly into your project. It has various controls for scaling, orienting, repairing (embroidering) and tessellating the 3D model, and includes options for mapping UVs, controlling the import of design hierarchies, and generating LODs. To make it easier to work with constantly changing CAD data, the plugin also offers the option of importing it into a Windows runtime. As soon as you publish an executable runtime file from a project, the end user can trigger the import of new CAD data and perform an immediate update without having to recreate a project or create asset bundles.
This enables developers to leverage Unity’s real-time developer platform for product design and visualization, as well as easily and efficiently create new training applications, interactive and immersive experiences across multiple platforms, including PC, VR, AR, and mobile devices.
The PiXYZ plugin costs approximately $1,235 per year and includes a free 7-day trial. Also, an Unreal Engine plugin seems to be in the works, as the site points out that it will be released soon.
Thank you very much for your visit.
