Virtual (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have the potential to make computing more immersive, intuitive and powerful. With AR you can interact with digital objects that are seamlessly integrated into the real world around you. With VR, on the other hand, you can experience what it is like to go anywhere. Recently, the new Pixel 2 has just been introduced, giving you access to both the first-class AR smartphone and high-quality mobile VR in the same device.
Apart from great photos and videos, the Pixel 2 camera is factory calibrated and optimized for AR. It provides robust tracking, even in low light conditions, and 60 frames per second playback of AR objects. That means you`ll have truly engaging AR experiences.
First of all, we provide you with AR objects and characters in a new application called AR stickers. These allow you to express yourself with playful emojis and set the course for your very own stories. If you`re struggling through an afternoon crisis, you can take a photo with a cup of coffee from the Foodmoji pack or if you`re feeling good, shoot a happy birthday video for your fried with lots of AR balloons. These stickers give you new ways to be creative and show people in your life how you feel right now. It works directly in the camera and is available exclusively for Google Pixel.
More new AR Sticker Packs will be released in the future, so keep your eyes open. You can interact with your favorite characters from Stranger Things and be part of the scene when Elf is competing against the demogorgon. Team up with R2-D2 to save the day with the Star Wars: The Last Jedi pack or hang out with your favorite NBA stars.
The apps are displayed using ARCore, the Software Development Kit (SDK) für Android. With Houzz, you can bring the showroom into your living room and see how different furniture, accent pieces and more will fit into your space. Experience the real-time action of a League of Legends game via an AR map developed by Grab Games, and with Lego, you can have fun creating virtual models om AR with characters that come to life without fear of stepping on the last 2×4 brick.
AR stickers and many other AR experiences will be able available in the coming months.
Google also announced a new Daydream View headset that you can combine with Pixel 2 or any other Daydream-enabled smartphone for VR.
With this new headset, Google has kept the best parts of the original and made them even better. The new Daydream View features high performance lenses that result in better image clarity and a larger field of view. It features a high-quality two-tone fabric that makes the headset soft and lightweight, and is available in three new colours: fog, charcoal and coral.
There is so much to experience at Daydream. Last year Google started with 25 apps and games. Daydream now has more than 250 titles, so you will never run out of time. Over the last year we have also seen how much people love to watch immersive VR videos in apps like YouTube VR. No wonder: with great VR video, you`ll be at the center of the action. It`s a completely different experience than watching on a flat screen.
Google will bring more of these amazing, unique VR moments to users in the future with a range of new and exclusive premium content for Daydream. Listen to personal confessions from great comics like Trevor Noah in “The Confessional”, a YouTube VR original by Felix & Paul, or follow in the footsteps of inspiring women like Gina Rodriguez and Inna Braverman with Female Planet. With the new series “Discovery TRVLR”, you can venture to all seven continents with IMAX 3D in Google Play Movies and launch into space.
