SOLIDWORKS (ideal software to create 3D configurators) 2018 is here and with it comes a wealth of new features that help you streamline your design process. One of them that has attracted a lot of attention this year is 3D interconnect.

One of the main focuses in 2018 was to streamline the user experience. In this video we show you what`s new about 3D interconnect and what these updates mean for your next design project.

SOLIDWORKS introduces 2018 new enhancements to ist versatile 3D interconnect capabilities. By supporting the neutral file formats STEP, IGES, ACIS and JT, these files no longer need to be translated, but can simply be inserted into your SOLIDWORKS assemblies and treated like normal SOLIDWORKS components.

These components detect changes to the source files and can be quickly updated. The process of re-importing these file types is over.

Other new improvements bring their old 3D files further, including support for reference geometries such as sketches and reference planes. So you can do more with your existing files from other 3D design tools. No more time-consuming data migration.

Finally, custom properties are now supported for your old 3D files. Means that builds of materials and drawings automatically read the information you previously defined in your legacy design tool. With 3D interconnect, you can continue to use 3D design data from any source without compromising performance.

Highlights.

User-defined and third-party material files are now supported, including:

Assembly Cut features can now be read from PTC CREO and UG files, reference levels, and user-defined attributes or properties from their neutral formats.
