Why you should deal with Google Poly.

App developers (for example to create 3D configurators) now have an easy way to populate their virtual worlds.

Creating a virtual reality (VR) app is not an easy task, especially when it comes to filling these immersive worlds. Even in a semi-realistic world, tons of objects are required, which is not always practical for a small studio.

Google offers a solution for such problems with its platform Poly. Poly is a library of free 3D objects for augmented reality (AR) and VR applications. Some of them are simple, others are complex and interesting – the image with the spaceship you see above is 3D. It is often allowed to modify the models if they don`t fit your needs and you can pass them on as GIFs or test them in VR viewers.

The objects are platform independent and should work on services like Google`s own ARCore or Apple`s ARKit. However, you should keep in mind that there will not be a flood of AR und VR applications using Poly. any developers want to give their games a distinctive look and that usually means user-defined objects. This should at least help smaller developers get the ball rolling, and we could easily see developers of all sizes using this to quickly prototype an idea before seriously committing to it.
