Users have long been able to watch 3D videos and movies (for example about 3D configurators) on YouTube, the world`s most popular video platform. In fact, YouTube directly supports 3D videos and allows them not only to upload them, but also to switch between different quality levels and different types of 3D types. So how can you upload your own 3D video to YouTube?

If you prefer video tutorials, you can alternatively watch the video below titled “How to create your 3D video/3D movie” from 3djournal.com.

3D film/3D video recording.

Take two movie cameras or two still cameras that can record video. Place them side by side, preferably so their lenses are close to the human eye, about 2.5-3 inches (sometimes it helps to put a device upside down). Then start recording on both cameras at the same time.

The nearest object should not be closer than two meters to the camera. This is a rule of thumb. If you are interested in more detailed rules, you can find them on our website or experiment a little.

Create a 3D movie or video.

Converts the video into single frames. For example, you can use the VirtualDub software and save/export the video as a sequence of images. The same applies to recordings from both cameras.

In the 3DJournal software, open the first frame of each data set and then use the corresponding button to create a 3D image. Adjust the image as needed. Use the scissors button to select which part of the image to save, set the final size of the images in the X2 menu (e.g. HD) and save the first 3D image in stereo JPG e.g. 3D0001.jps. Enter the number of images in the Extra menu and start editing.

In VirtualDub, open the first image (3D0001.jps), set the correct frame rate and the required compression – DivX MPEG-4. In the audio menu, you can set the audio source abd save it as AVI.

Increase your conversion rate.

Upload to YouTube.

Log in to your YouTube account and upload videos as usual. In the field Tags entder: yt3d: enable = true. If the video is in widescreen format, add the following: yt3d: aspect = 16:9. Alternatively, you can add other tags such as yt3d: enable = true yt3d: aspect = 16:9 London metro.

Then wait a while until YouTube converts the video in all quality levels. Now you can finally play your 3D movie and don`t forget to show the uploaded movie to your friends on Facebook.

Tips and tricks.

If your camera uses a video format not supported by VirtualDub, convert it to a standard format with a free video converter from iWisoftu, for example.

To synchronize the two videos, you can use buttons with the double arrow in the 3DJournal software. You can scroll through the video frame by frame, forward or backward. If you hold down the Shift Key at the same time, you will only move the left image.

If YouTube shows your 3D HD video in a lower quality, try waiting. Switching to HD takes time. Remember that YouTube can switch the video ad quality and the way the 3D video is displayed.

Now nothing stands in the way of publishing your 3D videos.
