Since the VR market is growing exponentially, more and more users are turning to VR AppStores, which offer the largest selection of apps and work on almost all VR headsets.
The increasing popularity of VR content in recent years has given users and developers more choice than even before. The problem is that this wide range can lead to many users feeling overwhelmed by an increasing flood of information, while developers are increasingly concerned about how to present their products to a wide audience.
It is this problem that has led more and more users and developers to look for a new, fast-growing, independent AppStore called WearVR. “We have content for all headsets and that`s why people love us, “says Andy Douthwaite, Chief Operating Officer. “Instead of having to go to different stores and look for systems, we have all the major options under one roof. Customers can then download content either directly from us or via an external AppStore.”
Visitors to the website are presented with a menu featuring Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, OSVR, Samsung Gear VR, Android and iOS, and they can choose what works best for their headset. “We started WearVR two years ago because it was difficult to find VR content. Within four months of launch and with no marketing spend, we had 100,000 downloads,” said Douthwaite.
“Customers can download content directly from us or through an external AppStore.”
The company has grown rapidly, raising a total of 1,5 million Dollar last February from a group of Atlanta-based investors. WearVR now has over 1,500 unique VR apps, more than any other store. To date, the company has generated more than 1,7 million downloads, is currently completing its second round of financing and is about to launch in China.
New features the company is working on include personalized recommendations, PRC browsing, cross-plattform integration and exclusive titles similar to Netflix Originals. The company is working with new headset manufacturers to bring WearVR content to their devices. This is good news for developers as it gives them access to new markets.
After completing the first market research study for children with VR, the company realized that this segment in particular offers enormous potential. “We have launched our Bogglebox children`s version, which promotes childproof, parent-friendly VR experiences. The response was great,” said Douthwaite.
The company is very excited about Mobile, as its own mobile app has already been installed more than 200,000 times. “mobile VR is huge and growing exponentially. Most people already have the technology to experience VR by sitting in their pockets,” said Douthwaite. “There`s so much great content out there, our app is the easiest way to find the best and the latest.”
But that is not all. There is a growing market for 360-degree video. Companies like Mentour 360 are making an app available via WearVR that offers users a 360-degree movie experience that shows the inside of a real cockpit and the workings of a professional flight crew.
Another type of content is, for example, architectural tours of real estate. ViewPort for example has several visualizations on WearVR that show the possibilities in the real estate industry.
“VR is about so much more than just games that we`re beginning to see,” says Douthwaite, “It also has medical and therapeutic applications. ” The WearVR team sees the potential of VR apps to support people in dealing with stress and anxiety and in overcoming phobias.”
“Meditation apps can now help you to get the feeling that you are lying on a beach, e.g. with the sound of the waves around you. In addition, physical sensations and vibrations can be used. You can also see how VR is taken to a new exciting level.”
The community of WearVR is constantly growing and is looking forward to future developments.
Thank you very much for your visit.
