Google Blocks (well-suited to view 3D configurators) has just received a major update that includes new environments, improved object snapping and a number of experimental features that, according to the company, makes Blocks even more powerful and user-friendly.
It was made available to Rift and Vive users free of charge in July. Google intended the creation experience in Blocks to be more like playing with children`s blocks than working with traditional 3D modeling software such as ZBrush or Blender. With a simple set of shapes, a color palette, and a set of simple tools, the user can easily create objects from VR, export them to a standard OBJ file, and integrate them with other 3D modeling software.
Now Google has added a few more features to make modeling a little less stressful.
Background environments now include a night version of the desert environment and simple white and black background options. It also includes as improved Snap feature that, according to the company, replaces the often unpredictable or difficult to control Snap tool from the previous version. The company says it significantly improves its snap algorithm and provides a significantly improved user experience.
Google has also added a number of experimental features, many of which are answers to user queries. For more information on how to use each tool, see Google`s official blog post announcing the update.
